1 We actively look for new opportunities to learn.

Fully 4 out 5 of us are actively seeking projects that require us to learn new skills. We are using many different mediums to learn (online media, blogs, in-person events, and webinars are some of the most common ways), but we’re also learning by doing.

2 We are not seeking outside perspective.

Only a quarter of us are meeting regularly with others outside of our own companies to exchange ideas. We’re often trapped in our own bubbles or echo chambers.

3 We are at the mercy of our inboxes.

Most of us know what we need to accomplish day-to-day—but 43% of us find that our priorities are always or frequently based on what is in our inbox.

4 We are at the mercy of our devices.

Fewer than one in three of us set aside time each day to be technology-free. We are often in reactive mode—responding to whatever technology throws at us. We are not giving our brains a chance to rest.

5 We have a tough time focusing.

Almost one-third (30%) of marketers rarely or never focus for an extended period of time, and 40% of us can only “sometimes” focus. Less than half of us have a place we go when we are working on mentally challenging tasks.

6 We say we trust our gut, but we seem to have a bit of imposter syndrome.

Fully 60% of us believe we need to be qualified before trying something new, and half of us worry we don’t know as much as our peers.

7 We’re conflicted about our relationship with social media.

Three-fourths (74%) of us use social media personally, but 59% of us think we spend too much time on it.

8 Only half of us feel fulfilled as professionals.

Fulfillment and happiness are closely correlated. Only half of us are feeling fulfilled at work.
